Going shopping for my wedding dress was definitely one of my favourite parts of planning the wedding as I had been looking at wedding dresses on Pinterest for about a year before actually trying any on. This is such a big part of your wedding planning but try not to stress about choosing the perfect dress, you will find it. I thought I would share my experience of wedding dress shopping and also give you an idea of what the different styles are.
Once we were engaged one of the first things I did was set up Pinterest boards with one of them being wedding dresses. There are so many different wedding dresses to choose from so I started to make a board of different wedding dresses I liked and thought might suit me. You won’t know what looks good on your until you try them on but getting an idea of what you like first is a great starting point.
Doing your research of good bridal shops in your local area is a good idea. Look up reviews of brides who have used them, you want to make sure they are reliable and have a great customer service so you know you will be treated well and you dress will be perfect. I found about 3 different bridal shops near to my parent’s and then booked in an appointment at each one. If you are able to I recommend booking an appointmnet during the week if possible as its much quieter and more relaxing as there are less people there.
Keeping an open mind
When you have your first bridal appointment my advice is to try an keep an open mind. I remember going in having an image of what style of dress I wanted and then completely changing my mind once I had tried on a couple of dresses. I found trying one of each style of dress on really helped at it allowed me to see exactly what style I liked and didn’t like.
Think about your venue
You may want to use your venue as a starting point when choosing your dress. If your getting married on the beach then maybe a lighter dress that flows and is less figure hugging or if you getting married in a church then maybe look at a more structured dress with a train and lace on it. Your venue can determin your dress if you or you can choose some that reflects you and your personality maybe.
Colour of the dress
You might find that wearing a white or ivory dress doesn’t suit your skin tone, for example if your very fair then you may find that ivory washed you out. There is now a wide variety of subtle colours you can choose from like blush or tea rose that are warmer and won’t be as harsh as the traditional white or Ivory. Your be amazed at how different the exact dress looks in ivory compared to a blush colour.
How much your willing to pay
If you dont want to be spending £1,000’s on your wedding dress then there are a few things you can do to get a beautiful for a lot less. A lot of bridal shops will have at least one sale during the year where they sell stock dresses, the dresses they have on display. These dresses are normally sold at about 50% off the original price saving you a huge amount of money on a designer dress. If you are looking for affordable wedding dresses, that still look gorgoeus, then why not have a look at high street bridal dresses. A lot of high street brands are now selling wedding dresses at the fraction of the cost compared to designer dresses, they are well worth checking out.
There is so much to consider then shopping for your wedding dress so hopefully this blog post has given you some tip on how to make it more enjoyable and what to look out for. Don’t forget to come back next Monday as I will be chatting about bridal accessorise and shoes. Have a lovely rest of your day.
