Wedding Flowers

This weeks post is all about your wedding venue flowers and also touching on table decorations. When you go for your initial meeting with your florist you will put together a selection of flowers and foliage which reflect your theme, dress and also the venue. Once your bouquet flowers have been chosen then you can dispersed these flowers throughout the venue to link all your venues together. I’ve broken this blog post down into two sections to make it easier to understand, so let’s get into it.

Ceremony Flowers

Whether you are going for a religious or civil ceremony your flowers will be very similar and will depend on what you are looking for. The chair that face the aisle will typically have flowers attached to the chair. This helps to bring attention to where the aisle is and also adds a lovely pop of colour and softness to this area of the space. You could also line the aisle with petals too, if you have a flower girl she would be doing this job anyway. As the reach the end of the aisle it’s also nice to have something either at the alter or either side of the end of the aisle. The image on the right is a lovely dome of flowers and foliage that really soften and brighten up the room you are getting married in.

trees in church

If you are lucky enough to get married in a building with very high ceiling or a grand cathedral and are looking for a gorgeous way to decorate your ceremony why not look into having trees. I know it sounds really odd but if you take the time to pick out quite sparse trees with maybe some flowers in it then the outcome can be stunning.

Wedding Breakfast

Where ever you decide to have your wedding breakfast flowers will really help to show the theme of your wedding and bring some life and colour to the space. I have put together a collection of different ways you can incorporate flowers and foliage into your table decorations.

The most important rule for your table decorations is they either need to be bellow or above someone eye level. This way you can ensure that everyone can see each other, making conversation easier and allowing everyone to chat to each other. With this in mind you can incorporate flowers however you like.

For low table arrangement bottles, vases and lanterns make for great vessels to hold flowers in or around. You can pick out certain flowers or colours from your bouquet to great a colour scheme through the whole room either making it look unison on each table or adding some difference variations around the room. You will find if you add some foliage (leaves) into your flower arrangements the price will drop as foliage is a lot cheaper than flowers.

If you are wanting more of a statement piece then you can have a much large display of flowers. Tall flower arrangement will normally be held up by a candle stand, or something similar in shape and then had flowers incorporated into it. With a tall flower arrangment your find it will make an amazing impact the moment you walk into the room because they will be around you eye level when you are stand up.

If you are currently choosing your wedding flowers then Pinterest is a great way to gather some inspiration and show your florist what you are looking for. Go take a look at last week blog post all about wedding bouquets as that also part of your wedding flowers. I will cover table decorations in further detail a bit later on so keep an eye out for that. Hope you had a lovely weekend and I will see you very soon.

We Got Married!

So the reason I have taken a mini-break from blogging, is because we got married !!! I am so excited to be able to now share with you everything to do with our wedding.

We got married on Saturday 22nd of July at Farnham Castle in Surrey. We had our wedding ceremony in the castle’s Norman Chapel, which is a stunning part of the castle and meant we had our whole wedding at the same venue. Farnham Castle is an old 900 year old castle overlooking Farnham, it was a beautiful location for our wedding and all the guests loved it. We decided to keep the wedding small with around 60 guests during the day and a few more friends in the evening.

I tried not to have too many expectations for the wedding day, as I am the sort of person who likes to make a plan and stick to it. I know things could change on the wedding day so I let go of trying to control what was going to happen and just enjoyed it. The day felt like it when by really slowly but also fast at the same time, it was having 3 days in one, it’s quite hard to explain. It now feels really surreal thinking about our wedding day, it feels a bit like a dream but the photos remind us our fairytale wedding definitely happened. We stayed at the castle overnight, and we had such a beautiful bridal suite (it was bigger than our flat!). It was very nice to then have breakfast with the guests the next morning, prolong the wedding day just a little bit more.

We then went on our honeymoon with three nights in the beautiful Cotswolds and then a week in Tenerife, which was amazing. I would definitely suggest going on a honeymoon or even a mini-moon after your wedding as it means you can finally relax after all that planning  and spend some time with you new Husband/Wife.

We had a 22 month engagement, which sounds like forever, but it was the perfect amount of time for us to finish off our degrees, plan our wedding and enjoy our engagement. It was amazing how quickly the wedding day snuck up on us, it always felt ages away. One piece of advice I have for the last month before your wedding is to make sure you have a list of everything that needs doing and try and get stuff done early rather than later. In the final week before the wedding it will make it a lot easier if you have everything in place and organised so you know exactly what needs doing.

It’s still weird to know our wedding day is over and I now have a Husband, it will start to sink in once I have legally changed my name. We are still waiting for our professional photographs and I’m planning on posting a few in a blog post but in the meantime why not follow me on Instagram and Twitter to see a sneak peek.

If you want to hear more about my wedding day, as I’m planning on doing a blog post about the whole day, how we saved money and my tips then make sure to follow my blog. Have a lovely week.

Summer Favourites

I’m Back! If you don’t follow me on social media then I have taken a mini break as I just got married, which is still sinking in. We went on a two week honeymoon but I’m now back. I thought I would do a honeymoon / Summer holiday favourites blog post, so let’s get into it.

Body & Skin Care

L’Occitane Shea Butter Range

Shea Butter is a great ingredient that really helps to hydrate your skin and this is essential when your skin is exposed to a lot of sun. It’s also great for making your tan last and preventing your skin from peeling. L’Occitane have a whole range dedicated to shea butter ingredient and I love them all. My two favourite products from the shea butter range is their hand cream and Ultra Rich Body Cream.

Usually shea butter products are used in the winter months as they are quite rich, due to the amount of shea butter. However, I find using the Ultra Rich Body Cream is perfect for when I go on holiday as it’s super moisturising, which is perfect when your skin is dehydrated from long exposure to the sun. I also find this body cream is amazing after shaving your legs, especially if you suffer from sensitive skin like me. I usually find rich hand creams are quite greasy, but this one isn’t and it sinks into your skin really quickly too.

La Roche-Posay  – Anthelios Xl

I only recently discovered this sun cream, after seeing lots of blogger raving about it, and I am so glad I picked it up. I decided to go for the Anti-shine version, as I can get quite greasy skin in the summer, and have really been enjoying using it. I decided to take it on our honeymoon to Tenerife and loved using it compared to my Ultrasun face sun cream I was using before. I find a lot of factor 50 face sun creams are very thick and greasy whereas this one is more like a face cream consistency but with the same amount of protection.

I don’t usually include fashion favourites but whilst I was in Tenerife there were two pieces I absolutely loved and wanted to share with you.

New Look Black Floral Print Frill Trim Maxi Dress

I picked this piece up just before our wedding, as I love wearing maxi dresses in the summer. I love how floaty and light weight this maxi dress is, making it perfect for a hot day throw but also ideal for cooler evenings too. I Just love the floral pattern on it and the detail frill on the neckline. There is a little piece of fabric around the waist which I love using to create a bit of shape and identify my waist.

Accessorize Colourful Bangles

My last favourite are these bangles that are perfect for accessorising any outfit. I got this set of bangles for my birthday a couple of years ago and I love wearing them. I love the way this set of bangle are all slightly different so you can mix and match the bangle combination depending on your outfit.

Hopefully, you enjoyed reading about my favourites this summer. I’d love to know what your favourites have been this summer. Look out for a blog post about my wedding day soon, with some pictures for the day.

Have a lovely rest of your week and see you next Monday.

Pre-Wedding Nerves

Once the countdown has begun then things start to feel very real and the realisation you are getting married in the next month begins. Pre wedding nerves are definitely a thing and people experience them very differently. When you’re so close to your wedding day you will find there are a lot of thoughts racing around your head and it can become quite stressful if you are not on top of everything. My wedding is just around the corner so I am currently going through this stage and thought I would share with you some tips on how to keep pre wedding nerves at bay and enjoy the time you have left.

Don’t Leave Thing to the Last Minute

Being prepared and organised will really help you stay on top of what needs doing in the last weeks leading up to your wedding day. I found making lists of things that need doing and putting a deadline for them means I know what needs doing by then so it hasn’t turned into a huge panic so far.

Stop Worrying About Other People

You have most probably heard this loads of time but the wedding day is all about you and your partner, not anyone else. I found I was worrying about other people; whether they would be able to hear me say my vows, if everyone would like the food. Stop worrying about all the small things, people are coming to the wedding to celebrate you getting married, so make the wedding a celebration of your love not what everyone will want it to be like. Once you realise that you don’t need to worry about everyone else on the wedding day, it will release some of the pressure you’re feeling, trust me.

Take Some Time Out

Remember to take some time out for yourself, even in the last few days before your wedding day. It’s important to take yourself out of wedding planning and immerse yourself into something completely different, otherwise you will drive yourself crazy. Why not organise to go out with some friends for a drink, have a pamper evening, go to the cinema with your partner. You need that break once in a while and you will find you’re more productive after taking some time away.

Enjoys The Last Time Left

You will find your wedding day will creep up on you and be gone by the time you know it. Try and enjoy the time you have left but also live in the moment on your wedding day. You don’t want to be really nervous in the morning and then forget parts of your day because you were really nervous and scared. Relax, take a few breaths and think to your self I’m only doing this once so let’s make the most out of it and enjoy every second I can. If you are nervous about the day then try not to think about it, think about seeing your family again or being able to finally wear your wedding dress.

If you are getting nervous as your wedding day becomes closer or you know you will be a bit of a nervous right before your wedding day then I hope this blog post has helped in some way. If you have any other tips or pieces of advice then please share them.

Wedding Skincare Tips

Preparing your skin before your wedding makes sure your skin is the best it can look before your big day. You might find a few months before the wedding you have been trying out different skincare products to see what gives you the best results, but remember to stick to the same skincare routine for about 1 month before the wedding. The worst thing is trying out a new product a few weeks before the wedding and having a reaction to it.

Along with your skincare routine, you also need to have a think about what treatments you want to use in the last few days before your wedding. I have three key beauty products I will be using the night before / the wedding day to make sure my skin is looking it’s best. So let’s take a look.

Liz Earle – Intensive Nourishing Treatment Mask

This face mask is amazing for when your skin needs a big drink of water. I love using this in the winter months but also when my skin just needs a bit more hydration. I find when my skin is a bit dry my make-up can look quite cakey on my face, which is not the look I want on my wedding day. I am going to use this on the morning of my wedding day to give my skin that top up of moisture and allow me to have a few minutes to myself before all the madness begins.

The Ordinary – Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5

This is a serum I have been using for about 4 months now and I am obsessed with it. Hyaluronic acid is brilliant at hydrating your skin through to the lower levels of your skin, which most hydrating products won’t do. I find this product really helps smooth and hydrate my skin to the point where I haven’t had any dryness on my face since using it, which is amazing. A few days before the wedding I will be using it morning and night, as I currently only use it in the morning.

Lush – Mint Julips Lip Scrub

Everyone wants lovely smooth lips and this is the best lip scrub I have tried, the best thing about it is that you can eat it off you lips. Lush have lip scrubs in about 5 different flavours I believe, this one is mint flavour and I love it. The lip scrub is made from chunky sugar, which makes it quite an intense lip scrub that leaves your lips feeling so smooth and it removes all your dry skin. This lip scrub makes your lip product look flawless when applied and stops it from cling onto the dry skin on your lips.

This is how I will be getting ready for my wedding this Summer. What products will you be using to get you skin perfect for the wedding day, I would love to know. Have a lovely rest of your day.

Honeymoon Ideas

Going on your honeymoon is such a special time and everyone always wants to know where you’re going, but choosing where to go can be quite hard with so many choice nowadays. There are two factors that you will find will be key to deciding where to go and those are money and time.

Honeymoon Ideas

There are so many amazing places to go to on your honeymoon so how do you choose. Here are just a few ideas of places that will make your honeymoon unforgettable:

  • Portugal
  • Florence, Venice (Italy)
  • Corfu (Greece)
  • Iceland
  • Disney Land (America)
  • Thailand
  • Australia

Honeymoons can be very expensive when you start adding up flights, visas, hotel, food etc and there are ways to make it a little bit cheaper. I mentioned in my Wedding Gifts post, a couple of weeks ago, why not ask for money towards your honeymoon as a wedding present. This means you can then afford to go somewhere you can’t afford to go normally or maybe go for a more luxurious honeymoon, treat yourself.

Length of Honeymoon

How much time have you taken off for your honeymoon? If you have only been able to take off a week then going somewhere close to your home country or even doing a  stay -cation will then mean you can get the most of your honeymoon. You don’t want to be traveling for 2 days there and back and then only have 4/5 days at your destination. If you are able to then why not take 2 – 3 weeks off and go traveling around a few countries or go explore somewhere a bit further away and might be a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Try and make your honeymoon memorable, you want to be able to look back on it and think that was an amazing start to married life. Where ever you go just make the most of it and enjoy the rest of your wedding planning x

Sunkissed Skin

When Summer eventually arrives in the UK, I love going outside and enjoying the sunshine either it be going on walks or relaxing in the garden. One thing I am very aware of is protecting your skin, which I think everyone is great at doing on holiday but not at home. I have quite fair skin and find that I burn very easily in the sun if I don’t wear any Suncream, so I have always used a factor 50 once a day suncream. It’s so important to protect your skin from the UV-A & UV-B rays from the sun and make sure you use a factor that is right for you skin. If you are fair like me, use factor 50, if you are olive skin then you can get away with wearing factor 30.

My favorite Suncream brand is Ultra-sun. I love the fact that all their suncream is once a day application, and from my experience, it certainly lasts all day. Over the years I have tried different products from their range but my go to suncream is their Factor 50+ Extreme suncream for your body. I love the formulation of the sun cream, it’s not greasy and absorbs into your skin in minutes without leaving any marks.

This suncream has also been formulated for sensitive skin and it is also water resistant, which is amazing for when you want a swim without having to reapply your sun cream. One thing to keep in mind is this sun cream, like most, takes 15 minutes to develop before you can go in the sun, but I always apply it before breakfast so it has pleanty of time to develop.

I have really struggled finding a face sun cream that isn’t really thick and feels heavy on my face. When I’m on holiday I don’t mind using a thicker face sun cream, so I will usually use my trusty Ultra Sun Sun Cream SPF50,  but in the UK I like to use the La Roache-Posay Antheloios XL Anit-Shine 50+. I have only recently discovered this product and have fallen in love with it. It has the consistency of a light face cream, which I love, and hardly smells of sun cream either. This sun cream is perfect for wearing under makeup and it sinks into your skin really quickly but it can also be worn to work without having that sun cream shiny look. You can also get this product with a tint, making for a perfect summer base without needing to apply any foundation.

If you out and about this summer then please remember to put some sun cream on, your future self will thank you. Let me know what your favourite sun creams are bellow.

Have a lovely weekend!

First Year of Blogging

I can’t believe last week my blog turned one year old, how has a year passed already! I have had some much fun in the past year and I’m so glad you have all come along with me for the journey. I thought today I would share with you my favourite bits of blogging so far.

Meeting some amazing people

One of the reasons I set up my blog was I had just finished uni and wanted to do something productive with my spare time. I had been thinking about setting up a blog for years but never had enough courage to do so, but one evening that all change. When I started my blog I also got more into social media, especially Twitter, and was amazed by how big the blogging community was. A lot of bloggers are so supportive and they encourage each other which, is so lovely to be part of.

It’s amazing how much my photography has improved over the past year. I did photography A-level so already knew how to compose a photograph & use a camera but had only really taken landscape photographs and holiday snaps before I got into blogging. Blogging and Instagram have really given me a passion for photography and I am now looking into investing into a better camera too, which is so exciting. Photography is something lovely to look on back too. I now have photographs of the last year of my life and of times that I wouldn’t have normally captured.

Exploring new place

Blogging makes you look at the world in a different light photography wise. Since really getting into photography it amazing how many new places I have been too and explored. I love going out on walks so now I take my camera too and I will normally take a few photographs, which will usually end up on my Instagram. Last Summer I went to Portugal with my Fiancé, as there where he’s from, and I went to some absolutely gorgeous places. I love the fact with a photograph you can look at it years later and it takes you back to when you took it.

This last year of blogging has been absolutely amazing and I can’t wait to see what the next year of blogging brings. Who knows what the future holds.

Wedding Gifts

It can be really hard buying presents for a couple who have just gotten married but also for the Bride & Groom to decide what they want to receive. Traditional items for the couples house would have been brought, as couples would only move in together after they were married. Nowadays a lot more couple move in together before getting married so they will already have all the house items they need.

Gift List

My Fiance and I decided to sign up to John Lewis Gift List as there are a few items we need for our house but also it’s a great way for guest to know what to buy you. With a gift list you choose the items you would like to receive and then guests can log into your account and buy items from your list. All the gifts that are purchased are then delivered to you after your wedding, you can also choose to have some items delivered before the wedding if you want them for your honeymoon. It’s a really easy process that means guest know exactly what you need.

Here some ideas for your gift list:

  • Coffee Machine
  • Crystal Glasses
  • Crockery set
  • Kenwood
  • Bed Throw
  • Coffee Table
  • Rug
  • Candle

Money Toward’s Honeymoon

Another lovely wedding gift would be to ask your guests to put money towards your honeymoon. This is great if you don’t need anything and would rather have a more luxurious honeymoon and make memories that will last forever.

Honeymoon Destination Ideas:

  • Maldives
  • Carribean
  • Thailand
  • Disney Land (Florida)
  • Scotland
  • Iceland

Most Couples / Families have a charity that is very close to their heart so why not ask guests to donate to a charity of your choice instead of them giving you money. You might find you don’t need anything and would prefer to help out a charity instead. There are so many charities to choose from, you could always choose a couple if you can’t decide on one.

These are just a few ideas for wedding gifts that might help get your ideas going. There are so many different things you can do and remember to tell your guests about 2 months before the wedding so they are aware of what you want to do for your wedding gifts.

Happy wedding planning!

Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Dupe

When it comes to makeup sometimes I want a very subtle minimal makeup look and recently I have found lip pencils that are a great way to add a very subtle, natural look. One of my favourite lip pencils is the Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk lip liner. It’s a beautiful pinky brown that is a ‘your lips but better’ colour, and it looks stunning on its own. The only problem with high end makeup is the price tag that comes with it so I went on the hunt to find a dupe for the Charlotte Tilbury pillow talk lip liner and I found one.

Rimmel Exaggerate Automatic Lip Liner in Eastend Snob

This is a really good dupe for Charlotte Tilbury’s Pillow Talk Lip Liner and not just with the colour. I have found this Rimmel lip liner is extremely creamy when you apply it and then sets matt onto the lip and literally lasts all day. When you apply the lip liner onto your lips you can either create a very bold look, by applying the product all over your lip, or soften the look by applying less onto your lips and then tapping your index finger onto the lips to disperse the product. I am so impressed with this lip liner and it’s only £3.99.

You can see above the two colours next to each other (Pillow talk on the top and East End Snob on the bottom). On my hand Eastend Snob looks a lot darker but once they are both applied to the lips you can hardly tell the difference. Pillow talk is a bit more of a browny tone where as Eastend Snob has more pinky tones.

Overall these two products are very similar and if you don’t want to splurge out on a Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Lip Pencil then why not pick up the Rimmel Exaggerate lip liner in Eastend Snob for a fraction of the price.

Have a lovely weekend!

New Skincare Love

I have heard so many amazing things about The Ordinary products so I decided to take the plunge and pick one of them up for myself. After doing a bit of research into their different skincare products I decided to pick up the Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5, as my skin can become quite dry at times. I have been using the serum for about a month now so I thought I would share my view and experience on it.

My first impression of this product was it’s an amazing skincare serum for just £6. This serum feels quite sticky on your face, as you apply it, but it sinks in within a few seconds and leave you will silky soft skin. You apply the serum morning and night, before applying your moisturiser. I have noticed that over the last month that skin has looked so much healthy and I haven’t had any dry patched either. It will be interesting to see how my skin fairs up in the autumn/winter months, as that’s when I can get quite bad breakout of dry skin.

So what is Hyaluronic Acid & B5 and what does it do? The hyaluronic acid and B5 help to add hydration to your skin in two different ways. Hyaluronic acid can hold up 1,000 its weight in water and will add hydration under the surface of your skin. Most hydrating serums or moisturisers will only hydrate the surface of your skin, which actually means your skin will become dryer as you need the hydration deeper into your skin, for it to last. The vitamin B5 then enhances your surface hydration, with the two ingredients works simultaneously together to properly hydrate your skin and leave you with plumped healthy looking skin.

One of my concerns about this product was whether is would react with my skin, as I have very sensitive skin, but I am happy to say I have not had any problems at all. My skin has clearly improved since using this product and I am so impressed with it. The Ordinary have a variety of different skincare products and have now moved into foundations too. If you are on the hunt for products that work amazingly and doesn’t break the bank then you need to check out this brand.

If you have tried any of The Ordinary products out I would love to know what you think of them and which ones you have tried. I will be doing a spring favourite blog post soon, which this product will definitely be featuring in, so keep an eye out for that and I will see you very soon.

Have a lovely weekend!
