Wedding Flowers

This weeks post is all about your wedding venue flowers and also touching on table decorations. When you go for your initial meeting with your florist you will put together a selection of flowers and foliage which reflect your theme, dress and also the venue. Once your bouquet flowers have been chosen then you can dispersed these flowers throughout the venue to link all your venues together. I’ve broken this blog post down into two sections to make it easier to understand, so let’s get into it.

Ceremony Flowers

Whether you are going for a religious or civil ceremony your flowers will be very similar and will depend on what you are looking for. The chair that face the aisle will typically have flowers attached to the chair. This helps to bring attention to where the aisle is and also adds a lovely pop of colour and softness to this area of the space. You could also line the aisle with petals too, if you have a flower girl she would be doing this job anyway. As the reach the end of the aisle it’s also nice to have something either at the alter or either side of the end of the aisle. The image on the right is a lovely dome of flowers and foliage that really soften and brighten up the room you are getting married in.

trees in church

If you are lucky enough to get married in a building with very high ceiling or a grand cathedral and are looking for a gorgeous way to decorate your ceremony why not look into having trees. I know it sounds really odd but if you take the time to pick out quite sparse trees with maybe some flowers in it then the outcome can be stunning.

Wedding Breakfast

Where ever you decide to have your wedding breakfast flowers will really help to show the theme of your wedding and bring some life and colour to the space. I have put together a collection of different ways you can incorporate flowers and foliage into your table decorations.

The most important rule for your table decorations is they either need to be bellow or above someone eye level. This way you can ensure that everyone can see each other, making conversation easier and allowing everyone to chat to each other. With this in mind you can incorporate flowers however you like.

For low table arrangement bottles, vases and lanterns make for great vessels to hold flowers in or around. You can pick out certain flowers or colours from your bouquet to great a colour scheme through the whole room either making it look unison on each table or adding some difference variations around the room. You will find if you add some foliage (leaves) into your flower arrangements the price will drop as foliage is a lot cheaper than flowers.

If you are wanting more of a statement piece then you can have a much large display of flowers. Tall flower arrangement will normally be held up by a candle stand, or something similar in shape and then had flowers incorporated into it. With a tall flower arrangment your find it will make an amazing impact the moment you walk into the room because they will be around you eye level when you are stand up.

If you are currently choosing your wedding flowers then Pinterest is a great way to gather some inspiration and show your florist what you are looking for. Go take a look at last week blog post all about wedding bouquets as that also part of your wedding flowers. I will cover table decorations in further detail a bit later on so keep an eye out for that. Hope you had a lovely weekend and I will see you very soon.

First Year of Blogging

I can’t believe last week my blog turned one year old, how has a year passed already! I have had some much fun in the past year and I’m so glad you have all come along with me for the journey. I thought today I would share with you my favourite bits of blogging so far.

Meeting some amazing people

One of the reasons I set up my blog was I had just finished uni and wanted to do something productive with my spare time. I had been thinking about setting up a blog for years but never had enough courage to do so, but one evening that all change. When I started my blog I also got more into social media, especially Twitter, and was amazed by how big the blogging community was. A lot of bloggers are so supportive and they encourage each other which, is so lovely to be part of.

It’s amazing how much my photography has improved over the past year. I did photography A-level so already knew how to compose a photograph & use a camera but had only really taken landscape photographs and holiday snaps before I got into blogging. Blogging and Instagram have really given me a passion for photography and I am now looking into investing into a better camera too, which is so exciting. Photography is something lovely to look on back too. I now have photographs of the last year of my life and of times that I wouldn’t have normally captured.

Exploring new place

Blogging makes you look at the world in a different light photography wise. Since really getting into photography it amazing how many new places I have been too and explored. I love going out on walks so now I take my camera too and I will normally take a few photographs, which will usually end up on my Instagram. Last Summer I went to Portugal with my Fiancé, as there where he’s from, and I went to some absolutely gorgeous places. I love the fact with a photograph you can look at it years later and it takes you back to when you took it.

This last year of blogging has been absolutely amazing and I can’t wait to see what the next year of blogging brings. Who knows what the future holds.

Wedding Gifts

It can be really hard buying presents for a couple who have just gotten married but also for the Bride & Groom to decide what they want to receive. Traditional items for the couples house would have been brought, as couples would only move in together after they were married. Nowadays a lot more couple move in together before getting married so they will already have all the house items they need.

Gift List

My Fiance and I decided to sign up to John Lewis Gift List as there are a few items we need for our house but also it’s a great way for guest to know what to buy you. With a gift list you choose the items you would like to receive and then guests can log into your account and buy items from your list. All the gifts that are purchased are then delivered to you after your wedding, you can also choose to have some items delivered before the wedding if you want them for your honeymoon. It’s a really easy process that means guest know exactly what you need.

Here some ideas for your gift list:

  • Coffee Machine
  • Crystal Glasses
  • Crockery set
  • Kenwood
  • Bed Throw
  • Coffee Table
  • Rug
  • Candle

Money Toward’s Honeymoon

Another lovely wedding gift would be to ask your guests to put money towards your honeymoon. This is great if you don’t need anything and would rather have a more luxurious honeymoon and make memories that will last forever.

Honeymoon Destination Ideas:

  • Maldives
  • Carribean
  • Thailand
  • Disney Land (Florida)
  • Scotland
  • Iceland

Most Couples / Families have a charity that is very close to their heart so why not ask guests to donate to a charity of your choice instead of them giving you money. You might find you don’t need anything and would prefer to help out a charity instead. There are so many charities to choose from, you could always choose a couple if you can’t decide on one.

These are just a few ideas for wedding gifts that might help get your ideas going. There are so many different things you can do and remember to tell your guests about 2 months before the wedding so they are aware of what you want to do for your wedding gifts.

Happy wedding planning!

Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Dupe

When it comes to makeup sometimes I want a very subtle minimal makeup look and recently I have found lip pencils that are a great way to add a very subtle, natural look. One of my favourite lip pencils is the Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk lip liner. It’s a beautiful pinky brown that is a ‘your lips but better’ colour, and it looks stunning on its own. The only problem with high end makeup is the price tag that comes with it so I went on the hunt to find a dupe for the Charlotte Tilbury pillow talk lip liner and I found one.

Rimmel Exaggerate Automatic Lip Liner in Eastend Snob

This is a really good dupe for Charlotte Tilbury’s Pillow Talk Lip Liner and not just with the colour. I have found this Rimmel lip liner is extremely creamy when you apply it and then sets matt onto the lip and literally lasts all day. When you apply the lip liner onto your lips you can either create a very bold look, by applying the product all over your lip, or soften the look by applying less onto your lips and then tapping your index finger onto the lips to disperse the product. I am so impressed with this lip liner and it’s only £3.99.

You can see above the two colours next to each other (Pillow talk on the top and East End Snob on the bottom). On my hand Eastend Snob looks a lot darker but once they are both applied to the lips you can hardly tell the difference. Pillow talk is a bit more of a browny tone where as Eastend Snob has more pinky tones.

Overall these two products are very similar and if you don’t want to splurge out on a Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Lip Pencil then why not pick up the Rimmel Exaggerate lip liner in Eastend Snob for a fraction of the price.

Have a lovely weekend!

New Skincare Love

I have heard so many amazing things about The Ordinary products so I decided to take the plunge and pick one of them up for myself. After doing a bit of research into their different skincare products I decided to pick up the Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5, as my skin can become quite dry at times. I have been using the serum for about a month now so I thought I would share my view and experience on it.

My first impression of this product was it’s an amazing skincare serum for just £6. This serum feels quite sticky on your face, as you apply it, but it sinks in within a few seconds and leave you will silky soft skin. You apply the serum morning and night, before applying your moisturiser. I have noticed that over the last month that skin has looked so much healthy and I haven’t had any dry patched either. It will be interesting to see how my skin fairs up in the autumn/winter months, as that’s when I can get quite bad breakout of dry skin.

So what is Hyaluronic Acid & B5 and what does it do? The hyaluronic acid and B5 help to add hydration to your skin in two different ways. Hyaluronic acid can hold up 1,000 its weight in water and will add hydration under the surface of your skin. Most hydrating serums or moisturisers will only hydrate the surface of your skin, which actually means your skin will become dryer as you need the hydration deeper into your skin, for it to last. The vitamin B5 then enhances your surface hydration, with the two ingredients works simultaneously together to properly hydrate your skin and leave you with plumped healthy looking skin.

One of my concerns about this product was whether is would react with my skin, as I have very sensitive skin, but I am happy to say I have not had any problems at all. My skin has clearly improved since using this product and I am so impressed with it. The Ordinary have a variety of different skincare products and have now moved into foundations too. If you are on the hunt for products that work amazingly and doesn’t break the bank then you need to check out this brand.

If you have tried any of The Ordinary products out I would love to know what you think of them and which ones you have tried. I will be doing a spring favourite blog post soon, which this product will definitely be featuring in, so keep an eye out for that and I will see you very soon.

Have a lovely weekend!

Have Your Cake and Eat it

Choosing what style of wedding cake you want can be quite daunting, with the amount of different styles and price. To start it’s a good idea to familiarise yourself with the different styles, if you are unsure of which style to choose, so you can then both work out what style you do and don’t like.

If you are trying to save some money on your cake then why not take a look at Waitrose or Marks and Spencers pre-made wedding cakes, they are a lot cheaper than getting one made in a cake shop. For flowers and foliage you could always look into silk flowers if you are worried about real flowers wilting or if you are putting the cake together and want to have it all ready the day before the wedding.

So let’s take a look at some different styles of wedding cakes and some alternatives you could choose.

Simple tiered cake

If you are looking for a very simple cake then why not look at plain iced cakes that have been decorate with ribbon, flowers or even foliage. This is a very simplistic look that is very elegant and sophisticated. If you are trying to save some money then you can buy pre-made undecorated tiered cakes at Waitrose & Marks and Spencer. You can easily personalise these cakes with flowers, in your wedding colour, or even a lovely cake topper.

Naked Cake

naked cake

In the past year naked cakes have become really popular for a wedding cake. If you are having a more relaxed, whimsical wedding then going for a naked cake would fit perfectly with your theme. I love the way a naked cake can be left plain and still have an impact. You could also dust the cake with icing sugar or decorate it with flowers, berries  or foliage if you wanted to add a bigger wow factor to it.

Foil & Patterned wedding cake

There are so many amazing creations for wedding cakes and the ones above really caught my eye. If you are looking for a wedding cake that is a bit different and a lot more creative in the design then take a look at these. There are so many different avenues you could go down: engraved icing, metallic edible foil wrap, painted icing, marble effect, intricate designs made from icing. Have a look at Pinterest for inspiration and also look at different cake shops portfolios to see what they have created before.

Alternative Wedding CakeS

Maybe you don’t want to have a cake and are looking for an alternative to the traditional tiered wedding cake, well there are lots of alternative to choose from. You could choose from:

  • Cheese Wedding Cake
  • Tower of Cupcakes
  • Tower of Macaroons
  • Stacked Brownies
  • Individual Biscuits
  • Tower of Doughnuts

There are so many different options to choose from, if you can’t decided on one then why not go for a couple. If you still want to be able to ‘cut the cake’ then why not have a small cake at the top of your chosen stacked food so you still can cut the cake.

Hopefully this has given you some ideas of where to start looking when choosing your wedding cake. There are so many different options and style you can choose from so go have fun choosing.

Please Don’t Stop the Music!

Let’s talk about wedding Music. Music is one element of the wedding that usually takes a lot longer than you anticipate due to the fact there is a lot to organize. You tend to have music during the ceremony, reception, sometimes the wedding breakfast and of course in the evening. Before choosing your music you need to think whether you want live or recorded music or a mixture of both. So let’s break this down into different sections of the day and give you some suggestion for pieces of music you might like to use.

You will need music for your ceremony regardless of what type of ceremony you are having. If you are having a religious ceremony then you will also need to think about hymns. A lot of people tend to have live music for their ceremony as it sounds quite romantic and is lovely to sit and watch someone play an instrument.

Bride’s Entrance

  • Bridal Chorus, Wagner
  • Canon in D, Pachelbel
  • A Thousand Years, Christina Perri

  • Wedding March, Mendelssohn
  • Arrival of the Queen of Sheba, Handel
  • Signed, Sealed, Delivered, Stevie Wonder

The reception is time for guests to meet each other and for everyone to come and say hello to the Bride and Groom. It’s nice to have some background music for the duration of your reception. If you are having live music for the ceremony then why not get them to play at the reception too, this way you make the most of them and enjoy their playing for longer. During the reception try and keep the music quite soft, maybe have some covers of your favorite songs or even some classical music. There are so many different directions you could take the music, maybe look at having the music reflect you as a couple.

Wedding Breakfast

Having music at your wedding breakfast is down to you and what you think will suit your guests and meal. We decided not to have music during our wedding breakfast as it’s a time for people to chat with each other on their tables and we felt music just wasn’t needed. If you are having a more relaxed wedding breakfast then maybe music will tie in well, where as with a more formal meal maybe a harpist or no music at all would suit that setting better. Remember to keep the music quiet enough so that people can easily hear each other and talk comfortable without fighting against the volume of the music.

Evening Music

First Dance

The first dance is for you and your partner to take to the stage and have your first dance as a married couple. It seems to be more popular now for couples to choreograph their wedding dance and practice for months before the big day. It comes down to you as a couple; would you rather sway to the music or make the most out of your first dance. But before all of that you need to choose your piece fo music.

Some suggestions:

  • All of Me, John Legend
  • How long will I love you, Ellie Goulding
  • Your Song, Elton John
  • Marry You, Bruno Mars
  • Love Me Like you do, Ellie Goulding
  • If I ain’t got you, Alicia
  • Thinking out Loud, Ed Sheeran
  • I will Always Love you, Whitney Houston

Party Time

Finally, you get to dance the night away. There are lots of different options for evening music and it all depends on what you are looking for. You could look at your venue and theme if you are stuck for ideas. Here are some suggestions on what music you might want in the evening.

  • Live band – Jazz, Country, Tribute Act
  • DJ
  • Silent Disco

There are lots of decisions to be made by enjoy yourself, my rule of thumb is if I enjoy singing along to it then it can go on the playlist. Also think about having a variety of different songs from different eras, that way all your weddding guests will know at least a few of the songs.

Josh Wood Hair Oil

I have never thought about using a hair oil, until recently, as I always found using a conditioner helped to keep my hair soft and looking healthy. I can get quite a greasy scalp so I have always stayed clear of hairs oils, in the fear they would make my hair look greasier. A few months ago my hair had really lost its shine, making it look less healthy, and conditioner just wasn’t doing the trick so I decided to give a hair oil a go.

I decided to try out the Josh Wood Radiant Shine Hair Treatment Oil and now love using it. This oils can be used as a pre-shampoo treatment or a pre-styling oil as it has been formulated to give you hair its natural shine. This hair oil has two main ingredients, pracachy oil and kukui nut oil, which make is extremely nourishing for your hair.

So why do I love this product so much? To start with I like to use this as a pre-shampoo treatment, just on the ends of my hair, and leave it for about 5 – 10 mins before washing it out. This product smells incredible, it has a mix of floral and nutty notes. It’s also quite a dry oil so you don’t get much residue of oil once you have shampooed, but you are still left with an amazing shine to your hair. I like to use this product about once a week just to keep my hair looking healthy and nourished. I now love the way my hair has so much shine to it without being weighed down by products.

I have a few other hair oils to that I am going to try out and I will do a review on my favorite in the near future. If you have any good hair oil reccomendations I would love to hear them. I hope you all have a lovely weekend and I will see you again on Monday.

Spring Home Wish List

Last year I did a autumn home wish list and a lot of you seemed to enjoy it so I thought I would do a new one for spring. Spring is one of my favourite seasons for homeware as so brighter colours start to be introduced as you can get a real feel for what colours and trends are in this year.

So 2017 interiors is all about blush and marble, its such a huge trend this year. The combination of white marble with blush pink allows you to place it into any space with out it being too overwhelming. Marble is thought of as a luxury material and you definitely get a sense of that from the photographs above. If you place some marble coasters on a coffee table with some flowers then you can create quite a striking look that is very elegant but softened by the flowers.

I like layers pillows on your sofa or even bed as it’ss a lovely way to add some colour and texture into a room. Pillows help to soften a room too so think about the colours you want to introduce and you want to lay them out. Using the pillow above I would place the grey faux fur pillows at the back, blush and rose gold pillow in the middle, and the white ‘sleep’ pillows at the front.

There are a lot of different website to help you get some home decor inspiration with my top two being Pinterest and Decor Pad. These two website are full of home inspiration with decor pad specifically for interiors, which I could spend hours on, so there great for when your stuck for ideas.

Hopefully you enjoyed this home inspired blog post. Have a lovely weekend and I will see you next Monday for a new Wedding Planning post.

Wedding Mood Board

Throughout the planning of my wedding I have found it really useful to have a mood board that incorporates everything I am looking for in our wedding. Having a wedding mood board means you can refer back to it when you need some inspiration and allows you to share ideas and thoughts with your vendors so they get an idea of what you are looking for on your wedding day.

I thought I would share with you some of my favourite wedding photographs in order to help you start to make your mood board.

So what do I include in this mood board?

You can include anything you like that helps you to visualise what you are planning for your big day. Here are a few things to think about:

  • Venue
  • Church or civil ceremony
  • Flowers
  • Suits & Wedding Attire
  • Wedding dress
  • Time of year / Time of the day
  • Style of photography you want
  • Colour scheme
  • Table decorations
  • Any wow factors like e.g. sweetie table, photo booth, live music

Use a mood board to record all your dreams and wants for your wedding. I created mine on my laptop but you could buy some wedding magazines, cut out images you like and stick them on a sheet of card and do it that way. You might find by the wedding day you ideas have changed from when you created your mood board but that’s fine, your mood board is there to get you inspired and allow others to see your vision of your big day.

Have a lovely week and see you next Monday.

The Best Makeup Remover

Let’s be honest I don’t think a lot of people look forward to taking their makeup off at the end of the day, so finding a makeup remover you love makes it less of a chore. I use to always use micellar water followed by my Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish. I found when I use the micellar water it used to feel uncomfortable around my eyes and didn’t get all the makeup of my skin. So I decided to go on the hunt for a product that will take off all my makeup and I dont have to cleanse afterwards, if I am in a hurry.

I had never tried a cleansing butter as I can sometimes get quite oily on my head and I always felt a cleanser with an oil base would be a bad combination, I was wrong. I picked up The Body Shop Sumptuous Cleansing Butter about 6 months ago and I recently decided to test it out. I am amazed by how well this cleanser manages to break down the makeup so that I can wipe it all off with a wet muslin cloth. The camomile is also really gentle and calming on the skin too.

So why is this product so good? It has everything I look for in a makeup remover:

  • It’s gentle on my skin
  • Doesn’t irritate my eye area or skin in general
  • The smell isn’t overpowering or chemical
  • Removes my makeup quickly and efficiently
  • Leaves my skin feeling clean

I love the way you can take your makeup in under 1 minute and it leaves your skin feeling clean and hydrated. You also don’t need a lot of this product as it turns from a butter to an oil allowing it to break up all your makeup, including waterproof mascara, which is amazing. I have found that this product works a lot better than just using my Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish, I think due to the fact the Cleanse & Polish is a cream whereas this is an oil based butter formulation.

Once I have removed my makeup I will usually apply a small amount of moisturiser. I find the oils in this butter really help to moisturise your skin as you are removing your makeup.

If you have really oily skin, then maybe this isn’t one for you or you could try using this as your first step and then cleanse afterwards, to get rid of the excess oils from this butter. If you have normal/dry skin, then I would recommend trying this product out and seeing if you love it as much as I do. This product is also perfect for traveling as it comes in a tin so there is no chance of it leaking into your washbag.  On the tin it says ‘suitable for sensitive skin’ which I can say is true as I have sensitive skin myself.

If you have used the Sumptuous Cleansing Butter from The Body Shop, then let me know what you think of it and if you have tried any of the other products from the Camomile range, comment down bellow. Have a lovely weekend.
